Rabbi Andrew Shaw

Rabbi Shaw is the CEO of Mizrachi UK where he is developing the future modern Orthodox and Religious Zionist leadership for the community. He is the writer and presenter of ‘Dreams of a Nation’ – a 90-minute musical performance highlighting the story of the Jewish peoples’ connection to Israel which has been performed all across the UK, Israel and the USA. He has also written and narrated several films about the chagim which have been seen globally.

He took up his first post in the UK in 2000 as the Assistant Rabbi of Stanmore United Synagogue, the largest Orthodox synagogue in Europe. Later he became the Community Rabbi. While there he created a whole range of innovative programmes which led to him to become the founder and Director of Tribe, a new organisation focussed on the younger members of the United Synagogue. Tribe now has over 20,000 members and is revolutionising the British community with its network of clubs, trips, programmes, camps and tours.

He has also been responsible for the creation of the 50 days, 60 days and 70 days Holocaust initiatives and the 60 days for 60 years Israel programme – all programmes went global with over 350,000 Jews participating in the four projects. Rabbi Shaw speaks widely both in the UK and in the USA, South Africa and Israel.

He and his wife Gila and boys Yoni and Daniel very much look forward to spending Pesach with you.

CHAZAN IN RESIDENCE

Jonny Turgel

Jonny Turgel is the chazan at Stanmore & Canons Park Synagogue in London, one of the UK’s flagship communities. He is a lead soloist with the Shabbaton Choir and has starred in concerts across the UK, Israel, Europe and the US.

His training in nussach and chazanut has taken a similar route, studying under several accomplished chazanim both in London and Israel in order to create his own unique blend of chazanut to shape a style which appeals to today’s generation.

His popularity has meant he is often chosen by communities across the UK to lead their events, appealing to both older and younger Bnei Akiva style communities

Together with Rabbi Shaw he has performed in films as well as the Dreams of a Nation show.

He along with his wife Rachel and young children Leora, Aviva and Jacob is excited to join this unique programme and looks forward to meeting you all.
