About Bronx

The Bronx is the northernmost of the five boroughs of New York City in the U.S. state of New York, located south of Westchester County. The Bronx had a population of 1,438,159 in 2014. The Bronx is divided by the Bronx River into a hillier section in the west, closer to Manhattan, and a flatter eastern section, closer to Long Island. East and west street addresses are divided by Jerome Avenue—the continuation of Manhattan's Fifth Avenue. The West Bronx was annexed to New York City in 1874, and the areas east of the Bronx River in 1895. 7,000 acres (18 km1) of the Bronx—about one-fifth of the Bronx's area, and one-quarter of its land area—is given over to parkland. The climate produces cold winters and hot humid summers

The Jewish population of The Bronx is said to be anywhere between 45,000 and 80,000, this is the smallest Jewish population of the five boroughs of New York. The Jewish population in the 1940s used to make up nearly 60% of the boroughs population, but from that time many Jews moved to more prosperous areas. There are around 15 synagogues in The Bronx, these are in several different areas, there are five in Riverdale, and also four near Pelham Parkway in Morris Park. There are also a good number of kosher restaurants in Riverdale as well.
