About Bahrain

The Kingdom of Bahrain is a small Arab state located in a bay on the southwestern coast of the Persian Gulf. It is made up of 51 natural islands and 33 artificial islands, centered around Bahrain Island. The capital, port and largest city is Manama. Bahrain sits between the Qatari peninsula and the northeastern coast of Saudi Arabia. The 24-kilometer King Fahd Causeway connects Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Bahrain’s population is over 1.2 million according to the 2010 census, around half are foreign-born.

Jewish History, POI & Kosher Establishments in Bahrain

The Bahrain-Israel normalization agreement, officially knows as the Abraham Accords, opens up another Arab country for Jewish and Kosher vacation travel. Jews have lived in Bahrain for 140 years. Ebrahim Nonoo is the leader of the tiny community of about 50 Jews in the capital city of Manama. He is working on renovating the synagogue and hopes to reopen next year as a synagogue and museum. The Ritz-Carlton in Manama is the only hotel in Bahrain to offer kosher food. Arieh Wagner of Starguest is the first to provide kosher meals in Bahrain. He will be offering boxed kosher meals via the Ritz-Carlton hotel. Guests will also be able to order meals via the restaurant, room service or the hotel’s deli. The Shalom by STARGUEST kosher restaurant in the Ritz-Carlton is exclusively dedicated to kosher guests during the kosher season.
