About Belfast

Belfast, Northern Ireland’s capital, is a port city known as the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, and for its political murals, documenting the ‘Troubles’ of the 20th century. In the city’s renovated dockyards, the Titanic Quarter includes the Titanic Belfast museum, an aluminium-clad edifice reminiscent of a ship’s hull, shipbuilder Harland and Wolff’s drawing offices and the Titanic slipways, which now host open-air concerts. Belfast has a temperate climate, with a narrow range of temperatures and rainfall throughout the year.

Jewish History, POI & Kosher Establishments in Belfast

The Jewish community is amongst Northern Ireland's oldest ethnic and religious minorities and has thrived over four or five generations. The first Jewish religious services were held in the 1860s in Holywood, Co Down and the first synagogue built in 1871 on Great Victoria Street. Places of Jewish interest in Northern Ireland include the Jaffe fountain at the Victoria Centre mentioned above, the birthplace of Chaim Herzog on Cliftonpark Avenue (which is marked by a blue plaque) and the older of the two Jewish cemeteries, which is a separate plot located at the City Cemetery in west Belfast and which has been renovated in recent years. The Belfast Hebrew Congregation is the Jewish community in Belfast. Kosher food can be obtained from Kosher Ireland.
