About Westmount

Westmount is an affluent suburb on the Island of Montreal, in southwestern Quebec, Canada. It is an enclave of the city of Montreal, with a population of 19,931 as of the Canada 2011 Census. Traditionally, the community of Westmount has been a wealthy and predominantly anglophone enclave, having been at one point the richest community in Canada. Most of the city is residential. Homes increase in size and value toward the top of the mountain, with the largest and most expensive being on or near Summit Circle.

Jewish History, POI & Kosher Establishments in Westmount

Westmount historically was not a Jewish community but in the 1920s Shaar Hashomayim moved from downtown to the area reflecting the growth in and the increased wealth of their congregation. In the 1960s Temple Emanu-El moved to the area and today Chabad also has a presence in the area.
