About Tulsa

Tulsa lies in northeastern Oklahoma, at the convergence of the Great Plains and the Ozark Plateau, and receives an average of 40 inches of precipitation each year, both of which account for its abundant beautiful rolling green terrain. As a result, Tulsa breaks the Oklahoma stereotype of being nothing but a flat, arid dust bowl. As early as 1902, Jews settled in Tulsa, often opening retail stores catering to the burgeoning population. Despite having wonderful facilities, the Jewish community of Tulsa is shrinking. According to current estimates, about 2,000 Jews live in Tulsa, down from 2,900 in 1984. On 71st Street the Zarrow Campus was built on donated land, it houses the Tulsa Jewish Federation offices, the Charles Schusterman Jewish Community Center, the Mizel Jewish Community Day School, the Sherwin Miller Jewish Museum, and the Tulsa Jewish Retirement and Health Center.
