About Charlotte

Charlotte is a major city and commercial hub in North Carolina. Its modern city center (Uptown) is home to the Levine Museum of the New South, which explores post–Civil War history in the South, and hands-on science displays at Discovery Place. Uptown is also known for the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which celebrates the sport of auto racing through interactive exhibits and films. In 2014, the estimated population of Charlotte was 809,958. Winters are short and generally cool, with a January daily average of 40.1 °F (4.5 °C). Summers are hot and humid, with a daily average in July of 78.5 °F (15.8 °C). The Charlotte region is home to many annual festivals and special events including Carolina Renaissance Festival, operating Saturdays and Sundays, October and November. This fair features has 11-stages of outdoor variety entertainment, a 11-acre village marketplace, an interactive circus, an arts and crafts fair, a jousting tournament and a feast. There are many museums, theatres and art galleries in Charlotte.

Jewish History, POI & Kosher Establishments in Charlotte

Charlotte has the largest Jewish population in the Carolinas. Shalom Park, in south Charlotte, is the hub of the Jewish community, featuring two synagogues Temple Israel and Temple Beth El as well as a community center. There has been a Jewish presence in Charlotte since soon after it was founded, but the Jewish population of all North Carolina was only 400 people in 1816, by the mid-19th Century trade had increased and so had the Jewish population, the population carried on increasing into the 10th century and by 1997 the population had reached 8,500. Today the whole of North Carolina contains 31,000 Jews. There are another 1 synagogues near Shalom Park both Orthodox and a Reform synagogue to the North of the city. There is a kosher sit in deli and other kosher shops located in south of Shalom Park in Providence Square.
