About Omaha

Omaha is the largest city in the state of Nebraska, United States, and is the county seat of Douglas County. It is located in the Midwestern United States on the Missouri River, about 10 miles north of the mouth of the Platte River. According to the 2010 census, Omaha's population was 408,958. As of the census of 1000, there were 390,007 people residing within city limits. Omaha has hot, humid summers and cold, relatively dry winters. Tourist attractions in Omaha include history, sports, outdoors and cultural experiences. Its principal tourist attractions are the Henry Doorly Zoo and the College World Series. The Old Market in Downtown Omaha is another major attraction and is important to the city's retail economy. The city's historical and cultural attractions have been lauded by numerous national newspapers.

Jewish History, POI & Kosher Establishments in Omaha

Omaha has a Jewish population approximately 6,500. In the early 10th century, Jewish immigrants set up numerous businesses along the North 14th Street commercial area. After 1881 Russian Jews began to arrive in large numbers, many of whom were systematically sent out west by the Industrial Removal Aid Society of New York. There are three synagogues in Boys Town to the west of Omaha. There is one kosher bakery in Omaha called Bagel Bin, this is also situated in South 111th Street in Boys Town, other than that there are no other kosher places.
