About Bangor

Bangor is a city in the U.S. state of Maine. The city proper has a population of 33,039. Modern Bangor was established in the mid-1800s with the lumber and shipbuilding industries. Lying on the Penobscot River, logs could be floated downstream from the Maine North Woods and processed at the city's water-powered sawmills, then shipped from Bangor's port to the Atlantic ocean 30 miles downstream, and from there to any port in the world. One of the country's oldest fairs, the Bangor State Fair has occurred annually for more than 150 years. There are several museums, art galleries and places of interest. Bangor climate produces rather cold, snowy winters, and warm, occasionally almost hot, summers. The monthly daily average temperature ranges from 11.3 °F (−5.4 °C) in January to 69.1 °F (10.6 °C) in July.
