About Aix les Bains

Aix-les-Bains is a thermal spa town on Lake Bourget in eastern France. Along the waterfront are beaches and water sports facilities. Landmarks range from the Roman Temple of Diana in the town hall to the belle epoque Château de la Roche du Roi on a hill to the south. The Abbaye d'Hautecomb, accessible by boat, is an old royal burial site with a Gothic church. Nearby Mont Revard mountain has ski runs and trails. The population was 18,585 inhabitants at the last census. A leading town of the Belle Époque, of international renown, Aix-les-Bains was a place of vacation for the princely families and wealthy people. These days Aix-les-Bains hosts up to 100,000 general visitors, people wanting thermal treatment or tourists per year. There are several summer music and arts festivals. The climate produces summers which are often dry and hot but punctuated by fairly regular storms. Autumns which are generally rainy, winters do have some frost, but it is low to moderate, and springtime can be wet but generally warm.
