About Alicante

Alicante is a port city on Spain’s southeastern Costa Blanca, and the capital of the Alicante province. Its old town, Barrio de la Santa Cruz, has narrow streets, colored houses and a lively nightlife scene. From here, an elevator or a steep climb leads to medieval Castillo de Santa Bárbara, set on a hilltop with sweeping views of the Mediterranean coast. It is also a historic Mediterranean port. The population of the city of Alicante proper was 328,648, estimated as of 2015, ranking as the second-largest Valencian city. Alicante enjoys mild winter temperatures, hot summers and little rain.

There are two main Jewish communities in Alicante, Beth Shalom which is a Liberal community and Comunidad Juda Beth Yisrael de Elche, which is a Modern Orthodox synagogue. There are thought to be a few hundred Jewish people in Alicante.
