About Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City, commonly known as Saigon, is a city in southern Vietnam famous for the pivotal role it played in the Vietnam War. It's also known for its French colonial architecture, including Notre-Dame Basilica, made entirely of materials imported from France, and the neoclassical Saigon Central Post Office. Food stalls line the city’s streets, especially around bustling Ben Thanh Market. Ho Chi Minh City began as a small fishing village likely known as Prey Nokor, "Forest City", or perhaps Preah Reach Nokor which, according to a Khmer Chronicle meant "Royal City". The city has a tropical climate, specifically a tropical wet and dry climate, with an average humidity of 78–82%

Jewish History, POI & Kosher Establishments in Ho Chi Minh City

There uis a Chabad House in Ho Chi Minh City, which supports a resident Jewish population of over 100 with many more visitors. The first Jews to visit Vietnam likely arrived following the French colonization of the country in the latter half of the 19th century. As late as 1939, the estimated combined population of the Jewish communities of Haiphong, Hanoi, Saigon and Tourane in French Indochina numbered approximately 1,000 individuals. In 2006, Chabad opened a center in Ho Chi Minh City, which is considered to be the economic center of Vietnam.
